College Village
-Because it takes a village-
-Because it takes a village-
After having gone through the complicated college application process with my oldest child, I wanted to simplify it for everyone else going through it for the first time. So I decided to get a certificate in college counseling and learn how to help others organize their own college applications as easily, efficiently, and successfully as possible. In the process, I created College Village. I curated a bunch of free online resources and organized them into simple timelines and essay tips with links to especially helpful information posted by experts. Then I enlisted the help of my youngest child, a junior in high school, to design and create this website. Everyone has their own process; this is just some information that I thought might be relevant for many folks.
When my daughter went through the college application process, we didn’t know where to start. We found people to help and my daughter did everything she needed to do. But now that it’s over, I wonder why it had to be so stressful to begin with. There are parts that can’t help but feel overwhelming, such as “the where” (where will she end up going?) and “the how” (how will we afford it?). But there are other parts that do not have to be as stressful. That’s where College Village comes in. I wanted to create a resource for folks to use before they begin the process themselves, so they have an idea of what all the steps are before it starts to feel overwhelming.
